Frequently asked
How do I get a medical certificate online in Australia?
Fill out our short online questionnaire describing your symptoms and the dates of leave required. An AHPRA-registered Australian doctor reviews your request — usually within minutes — and if clinically appropriate, your signed certificate is emailed to you straight away. No appointments, no waiting rooms, no phone tag.
Are online medical certificates legal in Australia?
Yes. Any medical certificate issued by an AHPRA-registered Australian doctor is legally valid — whether the consultation happened in person, by video, or via a secure online questionnaire. The Medical Board of Australia formally recognises telehealth consultations.
Can my employer refuse an online medical certificate?
No. Under the Fair Work Act, employers must accept medical certificates from registered medical practitioners as evidence of personal/carer's leave. They cannot lawfully require the certificate to come from an in-person consultation. Every certificate carries the doctor's AHPRA number and a unique verification code so your employer can confirm it's genuine.
Can I get a free online medical certificate?
No legitimate Australian service issues free medical certificates — the doctor still needs to be paid for their clinical time and bears legal responsibility for the document. Beware of any site offering free certificates; they're either a scam or won't be accepted by employers. Our single-day certificate is $19.90, which is typically cheaper than the out-of-pocket cost of an in-person GP visit.
Do you offer bulk-billed online medical certificates?
No. Medical certificate consultations are not eligible for a Medicare rebate under current Australian regulations, so no online provider can bulk-bill them. Our flat $19.90 single-day fee is generally still cheaper than an in-person GP visit even after the Medicare rebate, with no booking or waiting room.
Are online medical certificates valid for Centrelink?
Yes. Centrelink accepts certificates from any AHPRA-registered doctor, including telehealth. For longer-term Centrelink-specific forms (like the SU415), book a longer telehealth consult and mention it in your request.
Can I use it for university or school?
Yes. Every Australian university and school accepts certificates from AHPRA-registered doctors. The certificate includes the doctor's registration number so the institution can verify it.
How long does it take to get a certificate?
Most requests are reviewed within minutes, and all are reviewed within 60 minutes — 24 hours a day, including weekends and public holidays.
Can I get a medical certificate for multiple days?
We only issue single-day or 2-consecutive-day certificates online. Our multi-day certificate covers up to 2 consecutive days for $29.90. Certificates longer than 2 days require a doctor's review and consultation. If you need more than 2 days off, please contact a Telehealth clinic or your local community clinic to book an appointment for a doctor's assessment.
What if I'm not approved?
You're only charged if a doctor approves your certificate. If your request isn't clinically appropriate for telehealth, you'll receive a full refund automatically.
Can I backdate or get a retrospective certificate?
No. Backdated and retrospective certificates are not permitted. Certificates can only be issued for the current date or future dates, based on a doctor's assessment at the time of the request.
How much does a certificate cost?
$19.90 for a single-day certificate and $29.90 for a multi-day (up to 2 days) certificate. The same pricing applies to carer's leave certificates.
Is my information kept private?
Yes. All consultations are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in compliance with the Australian Privacy Act, and never shared without your explicit consent. Your employer only sees the dates of leave — never your symptoms or diagnosis.
Who are the doctors?
Every doctor on our platform is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and holds current medical indemnity insurance. Their registration number appears on every certificate.
How do I get a medical certificate in Australia?
There are three ways: book an in-person GP appointment, use a telehealth video consult, or use an online questionnaire-based service like ours. For straightforward short-term illness (cold, flu, gastro, migraine, mental health day), the online route is fastest — submit a short questionnaire, an AHPRA-registered doctor reviews it, and you receive the signed certificate by email, usually within minutes.
Can doctors backdate medical certificates in Australia?
No. AHPRA and the Medical Board of Australia prohibit backdating certificates. A doctor can only certify your fitness for work from the date of their assessment onwards. If you were sick yesterday but didn't see a doctor, a GP can issue a 'statement of illness' acknowledging what you reported, but it cannot certify you as unfit for a past date you weren't reviewed on.
Are telehealth medical certificates accepted by employers?
Yes. Telehealth certificates from AHPRA-registered doctors have the same legal standing as in-person certificates under the Fair Work Act. Employers cannot refuse a certificate simply because the consultation was conducted online or by video.
Can I get a sick certificate online without seeing a doctor in person?
Yes. Australian law allows registered doctors to assess patients via telehealth or secure online questionnaires for conditions appropriate to remote care. You'll never sit in a waiting room, but a real AHPRA-registered GP reviews every request before issuing the certificate.
What's the difference between a medical certificate and a sick certificate?
They're the same document. 'Sick certificate', 'medical certificate', 'doctor's certificate' and 'certificate of illness' are all interchangeable terms for the document a GP issues to confirm you're unfit for work or study due to illness.
Do I need a medical certificate for one day off work in Australia?
It depends on your employer. The Fair Work Act lets employers request 'reasonable evidence' for any paid sick leave — many require a certificate from day one, others only for absences of two or more days. Check your enterprise agreement or company policy. If in doubt, a single-day certificate is the safest option.
